As you can see from the work samples page, I’ve done some stuff. Built a company. Sold a company. I’ve worked as a newspaper reporter. I’ve worked for an ad agency. I had a podcast, and I’ve written marketing copy for Fortune 500s. I even worked as a project manager for a construction company for five years. (That was weird.)
Work. Work. Work. That 20-plus years of work has put me in a position to, well, work some more. But what’s changed is now I can work on the projects I want to work on. And project No. 1 is re-establishing myself as a freelance writer. My partners and I sold Airline Weekly to Skift in September 2018 and as of April 2019, I’m a free agent, which you gotta admit, sounds a lot better than “unemployed.”
I was born in upstate New York but grew up in the Cleveland suburbs and therefore remain a die-hard Cleveland sports fan. (By the way, if you ever have the opportunity to move young children to Cleveland, keep in mind they too will suffer this affliction. But on the positive side, they’ll develop a sense of humor and enjoy Cleveland’s great weather.)
Today I live in Rochester, New York, with my very patient wife Tracey. We enjoy our two kids and the Finger Lakes lifestyle, which means a lot of hiking, local wine and some poorly played ice hockey. And lastly, I have a BSJ from the Missouri School of Journalism.
